Judy says: Thank you, thank you for all your wonderful notes. I only wish I could write back to each of you personally. But in order to start a new book I need serious thinking time, which means less time for e-mail. Hope you understand.
Just want you to know that my assistant and I read this guestbook every day, and try to respond when appropriate. Your continued love and support are a constant inspiration.

Oh yes, by the way, I'm 69 years old.
I've wanted to share my story for decades. Briefly, I was sexually abused by my father from the age of about 7 until I ran away to my godmother at age 17 and confessed everything to her. She immediately brought me to a psychiatrist, and the healing began. So much more background... Catholic school, emotionaly unavailable mother and even after we did a family conference with my mother, she was reluctant to give up her status quo and I was somehow, at fault.I am positive this happens to many children and is has never been addressed
If you are interested, I have amazing recall and would love to tell this story.
Sincerely,
Cynthia

Hi Judy,
I wrote to you a few weeks ago. I am the teacher who wrote the song that greeted you at Battin in Elizabeth back. I am now working on writing and marketing musicals for children ( middle and high school). My collaborators and I are now beginning to market the show I co-wrote the songs for ( " It's Christmas Cara" based on Dickens " A Christmas Carole"). Even though the Dickens has been reworked many times I feel this is a version that will appeal to an audience hungry for solid songs and a good take on an old tale.
We would love to take on one of your books to create a middle / high school musical. Are you interested in hearing some of the songs we have for " It's Christmas Cara"?
All the best and congratulations on your current success, Stanley Schwartz

HI JUDY!!! Like so many others, I watched your documentary. I am 15 and have read so many of your books. Your books taught me a lot. My favorite one is probably “Are you there God? Its me, Margaret”. A friend and I both read it and talked about it all the time. It forever has a place in my heart and brain. It made me feel more normal. I am Jewish and religious, but Margaret also has that push and pull of religion and being secular. I also felt behind in “growing up”. I still do sometimes.I got my period later than my friends, got my bra after they had, and always felt like I was behind.’I remember listening to the Fudge books when I was little. They also are ingrained me now. You are so honest with what you write. Books usually don’t talk about the nitty gritty things, and when they do I feel like they focus on it. They make it seem abnormal. But your books make things normal. Anyway, I love you Judy!! You are amazing and if I happen to stumble upon a pot of gold, I plan on visiting Key West and going to your store. You are a role model to little kids everywhere.
Love, Risha

I don’t know if you will ever see this, but I wanted to share that your books are absolutely one of the things that for me through a rough childhood. Are You There God, Staring Sally J, and Tiger Eyes helped shaped me in to who I am today. When I started my creative writing degree in 2008, my first purchase was copies of all of your books on Ebay so that I could have the covers of my childhood. Thank you so much for everything you have written.
I'm almost 40 with an almost 10yr old daughter. She loves reading.I read your books at her age and recently bought her "Hey God are you there it's me Margaret". My heart was overjoyed by her connection to your writing. Today at her request we purchased the complete Fudge series.
Emma has asked me to leave you this message: "Aunty Judy. I LOVE YOUR BOOKS. Your books are the best books I have read in my whole life. I love that it's something me and mommy share. Thank you"

Dear Judy Blume,
I am not an 11-year-old, but rather a 74-year-old writing to tell you how inspired I felt watching your documentary.
Wow, how brave you were to weather all that book banning in the 80’s and now again.
And how wonderful that you found lasting love.
I am also a writer, a ‘late bloomer baby-boomer’ I call myself because it took me so many years to be able to focus on writing.
I went to see the movie, “Are you there God, It’s me Margaret” with a friend and we loved it.
Thank you for who you are and who you have been for so many.
All the best,
Diane

I just finished watching your documentary on Amazon Prime and I felt compelled to write you. All the book titles are so familiar and brought back a lot of memories. They played an integral part in my early teen years. I was never close to my parents, so I felt books were my teachers, my friends and my secret lovers. Thank you for everything you have written. It is so wonderful to know that you cared so much about kids.
Hello, Judy!
I absolutely loved reading Are You There God It’s Me Margaret as a teenager. Now that I’m 55 and going through all of those “fabulous” aspects of menopause such as my growing a lovely fat tire around my waist and my breasts growing larger than I ever wanted, I was thinking back to your book and the line “We must! We must! We must increase our busts!” And how funny it would be to have a part 2 to your book where Margaret is now menopausal and experiences all of the joys of that, including wanting to shout “we must! We must! We must decrease our busts!” I think those who loved your original book would love a book related to the funny and frustrating parts of being in this later stage of life. You may have thought of this, but I wanted to share my thoughts as I touch my growing stomach and try to find the right fitting bra for my seemingly ever increasing breasts. I hope this finds you well. Best, Jen

Hi Judy and staff. I may be the only person in the world that has not yet read one of your books. I am 65 and while that is old enough to have read some of your early books, I never came across them at the library (small town Canada) while growing up. Since I had three boys, your books did not end up in our home. Last year I met a young girl (age 12) in Italy who was studying English at school. Their resources were limited and I left her the only books I had with me. I intended to send her some books when I arrived home but soon found out that Italian rules were such that I was unable to send English books to Italy. I am wondering if that applies to publishers and if there was some way I could get her some of your books. I believe she and her friends would love to spend some summertime reading with your books. Thanks for any assistance.
I am 80, grew up in Union NJ, and have a vivid memory of the airplane crashes. I am writing to you with a question about In The Unlikely Event. Did you mention Stanley Road in South Orange in it. I live on this street and thought I had dog-eared the page. I got very excited and thought I had shown it to my wife. she said I was dreaming. Was I?
Love all your books

I am 73. I had just finished high school when you were coming into your own publications. I needed you before that! I realize now I should have read at least one of your books. It may have helped me break free from this lifelong imprisoning need to take care of and please others. I have been angry most of my life for those kinds of choices which were evident in both of my careers and in all 3 marriages. My husband is dying of cancer and, of course, I am devoted to seeing him through. I will. Thank God I’ve finally learned at this late date to take more time for me. That needed to happen decades ago! Maybe there’s a story and a lesson or two hiding in my life which may help others before it’s too late. I ordered Wifey, Forever, & In the Unlikely Event. Somehow I do believe you, Judy Blume, will impact me as I read these. The Amazon special about your life and work is excellent. So happy to have such an honest person like you growing up and living in my lifetime. Thank you.
Hi Judy! My name is Natalie. I am 44 and I grew up in the 80’s reading your books! My favorite is Are You There God It’s Me Margaret. I will be in Key West on July 3rd and plan on coming to your bookstore! I am wondering if you know if you will be there that day! I would LOVE to meet you!!!
Greetings Judy,
Can I just say I never knew you could write to someone that is a public figure and they would actually read and or write back. I would imagine there is an uptick in the volume of letters you receive daily especially after the doc was made about you! Your story is inspiring and very necessary to know about.
Let’s begin by stating I have never read any of your literature. None. Not a one. And I am clear that there is a certain portion of my childhood and teenage years that were missing your stories. They would have definitely given me perspective and knowledge about things that happened during that period of time. I never watched my parents read any other book besides the Bible. As a Latino family, there were certain topics of life and growing up that were never discussed. I wish I knew about your books.
Now I find myself sitting on my couch a recently separated 40 something with a middle school aged son and older daughter. Watching your documentary laughing and crying. Emotional and finding compassion for my younger self. Sad for her that she didn’t know a lot and mostly that she never knew there were resources out there to let her know she wasn’t alone. Because of my own bias, I didn’t reach for your stories at my school library. Most times your books weren’t available and always checked out. Lol. That should have been a sign for me but after looking at your covers, I didn’t see me. I didn’t think they represented who I was. And now I am wondering where I should start? Do I start with your first story? Do I skip around? Most controversial?
I would love to know your thoughts. I want my son whom is in 6th grade to k ow your work and understand your perspective. I want my nieces and nephews to know it as well. So they know that whatever they are feeling and curious about is ok and valid.
Thank you for your time and thank you mostly for sharing your curiosity, honesty and being a disruptive in literature! I can’t wait to read your stories and historical fiction with my son!
May you continue to shine and with the best regards,
Girly

Dear Judy, I don’t even know where to begin about the gratefulness I feel for you and your books and how they helped me so much while growing up in the 70’s and 80’s. My mom never talked to us about body changes or sex. Everything I learned was from your books. I know you hear all the time about how girls felt like you wrote the book(s) with them in mind specifically but I think it was just me (haha!) As I watched your documentary, it brought back all those young girl emotions and how I cherished every book I had from you. You were my teacher and my friend. You knew my emotions and what I needed to learn. You were (and still are) my CHILDHOOD. At the end of the documentary, I was tearing up when you said you are 83…83! (I know it was from a couple of years ago though)But yet, you’re still a young girl. I don’t want to think of a world without Judy Blume in it. I’ve been reading Tales of a Fourth Grade Nothing to my grandkids and I am taken back in time to when my 4th grade teacher read it aloud to us. That’s what started it all (Thank you Mrs. Thomas in Coffeyville KS!) of my Judy Blume obsession. You are a beloved friend. I still have your books from my childhood. I cherish them and I thank God that you followed your passion and helped this awkward little girl know she is going to be okay. Big hugs and love from Indiana. ❤️
I'm watching your documentary right now and put it on pause to write this. The world is a better place with you in it, Judy.
